Why am I part of the Movember movement? Because men’s health is important to me, as a man. I mean, that’s kind of obvious. Prostate cancer is the second-most common cancer among men in the US. 1 in 7 will be diagnosed over the course of their life. 1 in 36 could die from this. the older we get, the more prone we are.
And prostate cancer is pretty nasty. The idea of walking around with a tumor down there is just gross.
Enter the Movember Foundation
Movember focuses on some of the big ones: testicular cancer, prostate cancer. Mental health.
How? By making men do one of the manliest things they can do: grow a moustache.
Movember isn’t just some little fad that hipsters do. I actually imagine them not doing it cos they were doing moustaches before they were cool (though in all honesty, Tom Selleck did moustaches before they were cool; he made them cool). Movember has been investing in programs devoted to men’s health since 2004. They even have an entire page dedicated to explaining what they do with the money raised.
I’m a little late to the game, so to speak. But luckily I haven’t shaved since Halloween night. So I started Day 1 of Movember with that clean slate. I’ll be about eight pictures short this month, but I am pledging to grow out a moustache this month. It’ll be a difficult one, cos my face just doesn’t like growing a moustache. But I believe in myself. Most importantly, I believe in my face.
Follow me, and every day we’ll get to see the progress of my own moustache. And if you can, please back me in my pledge to raise awareness through the power of facial hair. You can click below or just go to http://mobro.co/jayvertucio.
