Web Design Trends in 2013 [link]
This morning I was sent this —
Interesting thing to note is that infinite scrolling has been around for years now, Tumblr being the big pioneer of this fad as far back as I can recall, and big photo designs have been around almost as long as heavy whitespace use.
If these things are finally trends, then that means that I’ve been working with the cutting edge of designers and creative leads in the past couple of years.
I will say though that the “Cleaner Source Code” and “Mobile First Design” trends excite me. As a developer, I’ve always tried to write clean source code but my CSS is generally horrible. And whenever I look at other people’s code, I wonder how the hell they are even coders because it’s even worse than mine! I’ve seen frameworks popping up by the dozen in 2012 and they’ve even helped me to advance in JS programming faster than I thought I would.
Also in 2012 I’d spotted Mobile First Design as part of a new way of thinking Responsive. This site actually isn’t built with that in mind, but it was built simple enough so that it should easily break down onto mobile. (and yes I know the menu doesn’t, but I’ll get around to that soon enough.)
So happy new year, developers. We have two new trends to watch, coz the rest have been happening for quite a while now!
